To all you network specialists out there can i have the following configuration on a smart switch with VLAN capabilitys
8 port smart switch
Port 6,7,and 8 assigned to VLAN2 only Called WAN with the cable modem in port 8, Astaro WAN interface in port 7 and my Vonage phone device in port 6 (Need Vonage to be outside firewall and with it's own internet address)
Port 1through 5 assigned to VLAN 1 only called LAN. port 1 will have Astaro LAN interface, Port 2 cabled to a unmanaged 16 port switch upstairs with LAN devices and port 3 with the Astaro AP. Port 4 and 5 for future LAN device use.
With my limited knowledge of VLANS I believe this would be enough to separate the vlans just like they were separate physical switches. Is that correct? Would anyone have any issues with this configuration and if so what would be the concerns?
Currently I have two switchs with one on LAN side and the other on the WAN side and would like to be able to do this with one Smart switch.
Thanks in advance and happy new year
Mark
