I found I could not login to web console after not logging in for a few months. I could still login to system console as root, so I thought that was most of the battle won.
I figured I made web "admin" tough and forgot it, so I looked for recovery procedures. I'm running UTM 9.004-33, so I figured this was valid, Regaining access to the Firewall in the event of password loss: Astaro Security Gateway. Simple, cc, then RAW, then system_password_reset. I go back to web console, F5, I get prompted to create a new password, it never gave me a response to indicate I did not perform correctly and it forwarded me back to a web login page. I tried this procedure maybe 6-8 times, in IE, in FF, every time the new password would still not let me login as admin. I tried complex passwords (upper case, lower case, numeric and 8 char min) and simple ("test"), non of which worked to actually login to web admin pages.
I found this, http://www.astaro.org/gateway-produc...-not-work.html, and performed the "cc passwd newpassword" at system console, and I can now login to web console. Thanks.
But, I wonder why the cc, then RAW, then system_password_reset process did not work. Was it taken out of later versions of UTM 9? Can someone validate it works on the same version I'm on? The good folks at Sophos might want to be aware if it might not be working for more than one person on this version of 9.
