Hi folks,
Let's take this video:
Ustream Experience, Ustream Experience Team Ustream on USTREAM. The Web
On my Smartphone via 3G that video loads fast within 15 seconds.
Within our school network using the webfilter/web proxy that video can take up to 10 minutes(!) before it starts to playback!
Even though I put that URL (ustream.tv) in an exclusion rule on the webfilter (I checked every option there - no content filtering, no caching...) the behavior stays the same. (tested only on VLANS with transparent web proxy)
BUT: when I start the video from a computer that does not use the proxy port (btw: no transparent proxy mode used in this VLAN, so I can "enable/disable" the filter on the client) and browse the Internet "directly" the video loads fast enough again!
I wrote another thread discussing that Vimeo.com videos are not being shown (they just do not load! Even with an exclusion rule!). When not trying this in a VLAN with transparent proxy but in a VLAN where you can disable that proxy port on the client... the Vimeo video is being shown.
I need the webfilter to work in every respect! But I do not understand why there is that much trouble with video streaming websites. We do not scan streaming content by the way.
What can I configure in order to make videos load fast and being shown for sure?
Regards,
Uwe
Please help to make the video work inside of school:
Interesting, this video just started playing. It took slightly over 10
minutes to load. I loaded it on my phone using UMTS in less than 15
seconds. Why is this?
