I have recently switched over to an Astaro gateway and am using the transparent proxy option. I used to have a basic firewall and used a Sophos proxy appliance.
I am wondering, with the Astaro, is there a way to track users (as in active directory users) with the web proxy in transparent mode? It looks like its possible if I were to switch to standard mode, but with it set to transparent mode, I am not seeing any way to do this.
I am trying to get the protection of transparent mode, where ALL devices going out port 80 on our network are proxied. The way the network was set up previously with the 'standard mode' proxy appliance was only effective if the machine was specifically set to the proxy. However, it seems now we have very limited reporting capability with the transparent mode. With the old unit, we could see the active directory users, and categories of sites visited. The Astaro unit, we can see the categories, but then its just ip addresses, since its not authenticating.
It would be great if we could have BOTH transparent and standard modes. For example, if it could be set up transparent AND then also allow authenticated users. However, it does not looks like it allows that
Any ideas?
